Evolutionary Computation - Evolve, Don't Invent

Date:

Nov 04, 09

Event Type:

Recorded Webcast

Category:

Intelligent Information Management, Enterprise Content Management

Details:

Evolutionary Algorithms are a type of Machine Learning that simulate natural evolution to discover solutions to problems. They have been used to solve optimization problems as varied as circuit design, anti-lock brake system design, antennae design, and network routing, and have also been used as automatic programming tools, which gives them broad applicability.

During this recorded session, you will hear a description of Evolutionary Algorithms and details of some of their applications, including the optimization of circuits. You'll also find out how they are used as automatic programming tools, particularly Grammatical Evolution, the system introduced by the University of Limerick in 1998, which still remains the world's only non-patented, Open Source Evolutionary Automatic Programming system.

What you will learn:

  • How Evolutionary Algorithms work
  • How some relevant example applications worked
  • How grammars can be used to help apply Evolutionary Algorithms to virtually any problem
